Eleven Rams make all-district team

OWASSO, Okla. (Oct. 27, 2011) -- The Owasso High School softball team placed 11 players on the 2011 all-district fastpitch team, including Coach of the Year (Shane Eicher), Player of the Year (Whitney Whitehorn) and Pitcher of the Year (Shawna Cary).

In all, five players received first-team honors including Whitehorn, Cary, Hannah Stirton (outfield), Nicole Nease (utility) and Haley Buchanan (utility). Nease and Buchanan platooned at third base and catcher this season.

Whitehorn got it done at the plate as well as in the circle this season and has verbally committed to Oklahoma State. Cary handled the bulk of the pitching in the early part of the season and played a big part in the Lady Rams running up a 39-3 record. Stirton, who played center field, served as the Rams leadoff hitter. Nease and Buchanan were the heart of the batting order and were among team leaders in many statistical categories.

Also making the all-district team were second-teamers Mikayla Waggnor (second base), Kenzie Stevens (outfield) and honorable mention selections Emily Bevan (first base), Myranda Stewart (shortstop), Morgan Thompson (outfield) and Rachel Jackson (outfield).

Eicher has led the Lady Rams to three 6A state championship games, including this year's 10-4 loss to Union.

The Rams dominated all-district selections like they dominated on the field where they were a perfect 14-0 in district.
